Espigas houses a library and periodical collection with over eighty thousand monographs on Argentinian and Latin American art; anthologies and presentations from seminars and conferences on art history and theory; group and solo exhibition catalogues featuring Argentine artists, whether held in Argentina or abroad, and of international artists held in Latin America. The collection also includes publications related to awards, juried shows, and contests; biennials and international fairs; and sales, at auctions or not. It includes over one thousand magazines and other periodicals, newsletters, bulletins and art event calendars, and art-related press articles from around the country.

We also house documentary archives and collections produced by artists, institutions, and other actors in the sphere of Argentinian and Latin American art and culture. The documents in the archive include photographs, slides, transparencies, negatives, recordings, posters, drawings and sketches, documentation on artworks, letters sent and received, handwritten and typewritten documents, printed documents with or without notes on the margin, personal and governmental documentation, greeting cards and postcards.


Consultations at Espigas are done exclusively by requesting an appointment through our online channels. We will confirm by e-mail when the material is ready in our reference room.

Remember that appointments are available Monday to Thursday, from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Depending on the number and type of documents, it takes us between twenty-four and seventy- two hours to prepare materials.
A special appointment is required to access certain documents.


Get in touch with us at [email protected] to arrange another appointment time. We will hold the materials for five days after your appointment date, at which point you will need to request them again.


The exhibitions can be visited with prior appointment only. To schedule one, write us at [email protected]

We ask you to store your bags in the lockers in the lobby outside the Reading Room. Please review the Visit Us section on the homepage for more details.

Our mission includes preserving the integrity of our archival holdings. For that reason, we request that you do not bring pens or liquids into the Reading Room.


You can take photographs of documents without the use of flash.


Most of the archival material is only available for consultation in person at Espigas. Please visit our database to learn what material is available in digital format on our website.

Espigas offers scanning services for a fee. To make a request, please fill out our Digitization Service Form.


Espigas only lends materials to institutions for use exclusively in exhibitions.


At Espigas, our mission includes preserving documents for future generations. Any deliberate damage to an item will be penalized according to the General Rules and Regulations.
