The origin of the project dates back to 1989. Based on an idea by Daniel Ergasto Martínez, a working draft was presented to Fundación Antorchas under the title Grupo Memoria, which proposed the creation of a documentation center dedicated to local visual arts.
Today Espigas has around 60,000 monographic volumes, approximately 1,000 magazine titles and 1,506 collections of a variety of documentary types such as posters, slides, photographs and more on Argentine and Latin American art.
