Milestone 11. Canale Fund

Wednesday, November 29, 2023

In 2003, thanks to Nicolás García Uriburu and Hugo Monzón, the archive of Mario Canale (1890-1951), which had been kept by his daughter-in-law, Haydée María Olivera de Canale, was identified and incorporated. Canale was a multifaceted artist and manager. He was director of the magazine Athinae and a promoter of the practice of engraving. Thanks to his close relationship with the painter Eduardo Sívori and his father-in-law Godofredo Daireaux, whom he considered his teachers, he kept their documents, which can be found in this documentary collection. A selection of this collection was studied and published under the title Maestros y discípulos (2006).

In 2023, an important set of documents was included in the National Museum of Fine Arts exhibition "Eduardo Sívori. Modern Artist between Paris and Buenos Aires" curated by Laura Malosetti Costa and Carolina Vanegas Carrasco. The course of research and new contact with Haydée María Olivera de Canale resulted in a donation of new materials for the collection.

1. Eduardo Sívori, sketch of landscape and animals in sketchbook, exhibited in 2023 in the Eduardo Sívori exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.

2. In 2006, Roberto Amigo and María Isabel Baldasarre published a first selection of documents from the Mario Canale Fund.

3. In 2021 and 2022, as part of the Cuadernos 1 and 2 series, specialized studies on documents in the Mario Canale Fund were published.
