Milestone 30. Digital inclusion

In August 2023, the Espigas Digital Inclusion project was launched: preservation, processing and dissemination of the documentation center's corpus of digital documents. Thanks to the Participación cultural - Mecenazgo del Ministerio de Cultura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aire Cultural and the support of the Santander Foundation. This project will contribute to the cataloguing, conservation and accessibility of Espigas' digital documents on modern and contemporary Latin American art through processing, improvements to the IT infrastructure and training for professionals in the field of document management.
This project begins the process of quantifying and identifying the diversity of visual, sound and audiovisual document formats present in our library and archives and making this valuable material available for public consultation. At the same time, it will allow the elaboration of a long-term comprehensive digital preservation plan, protecting the documents from disappearing, either due to the deterioration of each medium or due to the obsolescence of the formats.
We began the project with the processing of one of the most important collections for the recent history of video art in Argentina: the Telefónica Media Library, which consists of documents in DVcam, Betacam, Mini-Disc, Mini-DV, DVD and CD formats, among others, donated by the Telefónica Foundation of Argentina in 2017.
